"Artists are the gatekeepers of truth…civilization’s radical voice. Artists call our attention to the problems of our world. They hold up mirrors in which we see ourselves and offer us ways to imagine the world differently."
- Paul Robeson
When I was in preschool, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to draw and paint. As I got older, my passion for the arts never faded. I dabbled in all kinds of different mediums until 2005 when I fell in love with making jewelry. It began as a hobby making pieces for family and friends. Then, in 2015, I started my own jewelry business "BeadArt by Jeanette" after graduating from the New York Institute of Art and Design specializing in Jewelry Design.
Jewelry making is technical and there is a lot of problem solving involved. I think that satisfies the “scientific” side of my personality. My favorite technique is "Bead Embroidery" in which a variety of beads are sewn together with a needle and thread. Because of the small scale, the attention to detail is of utmost importance. Some of the processes I use are very time consuming, but I find I don’t need “patience” as many people assume, because being absorbed in the making process is so enjoyable. I get into a “zone” and it’s almost like a meditation.
In 2017, I felt I the desire to expand my jewelry business to include other beaded pieces such as ornaments, coasters, scarves and purses. The prospects are virtually limitless and I continually find new and exciting beaded pieces to create.
I enjoy going to Art Museums and Shows where I instantly immerse myself in all the different colors, textures and designs used in the variety of artistic pieces. How the combination of these elements work together to create the magnificent designs of art on display never ceases to amaze and inspire me.
